PSG Defeats Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious cup on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille struck twice late to seize a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
